Home Materials Skills Origin of Fiberglass Uses History Of the SnowboardFIberglassFiberglass goes through many different steps to get to the stage where it can be placed on a snowboard. 1) Glass and Sand is melted down into very thin "strings" and put through many different holes and strung through the hole just like a drum. 2)This process continues until the the strings are about 6 to 15 inches long and the diameter 0.0004 to 0.001 inches thin. 3) The threads are then sprayed with burning hot air to harden them to make the threads very sturdy and to support larger weight amounts. 4) The fiberglass is then sprayed on the wood in the board(the core). 5)The fiberglass will have to dry before putting the final coat with the paint and cool designs.Fiberglass was chosen to be used for snowboards because it can support many different weights, very strong, and very durable. Fiberglass is also capable of withstanding very cold temperatures, and different weights.
